Battalion Chief Christian Baker began his career with the Douglas County Fire Department in 2012 at Station 1 as a Firefighter/EMT. Throughout his journey, Chief Baker has been fortunate to be mentored by some of the greatest leaders he could ask for, individuals who instilled in him two guiding principles that continue to shape his leadership today: “Always do right by your people” (Chief Walker) and “Never forget where you came from” (Chief Spencer).

Over the years, Chief Baker has worked tirelessly to develop both his operational proficiency on emergency scenes and his leadership abilities. Advancing through the ranks of Firefighter, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain, he now proudly serves as the Battalion Chief for Battalion 1 on C-Shift.

Chief Baker has a deep passion for mentoring and developing others, striving to help each member not only become the best firefighter or medical provider they can be, but also to grow as a person. As he learned through Axioms of Leadership, when individuals become more well-rounded and grounded human beings, they naturally evolve into stronger leaders within the fire service.

When not serving Douglas County, Chief Baker enjoys spending time with his family and traveling to create meaningful memories rather than collecting material possessions. His goal is to travel the world with his son, Barrett, so that he can experience and appreciate people from all walks of life, learning to respect others as human beings.

Throughout his career, Chief Baker has achieved numerous professional milestones, including earning an associate degree in Fire Science and a bachelor's degree in Fire Administration. He has also completed Fire Officer I–IV, Chief Fire Officer I and II, and the Douglas County Fire Department Leadership Development Program. Along with a wide variety of progressive operational courses, these accomplishments have equipped him with the knowledge and experience to effectively lead what he proudly considers “the best of the best.”

Chief Baker considers himself one of the luckiest men in the world and attributes his success to the extraordinary men and women who work alongside him every day.
