Battalion Chief Travis Major began his fire service career 30 years ago with Paulding County Fire Rescue. Throughout his three decades of service, he has developed extensive operational and leadership experience across multiple disciplines of the fire service.

Chief Major’s career has included both domestic and international assignments, ranging from structural firefighting to government contract work abroad. He served as a Lieutenant operating a crash truck and heavy rescue unit at Forward Operating Base C-5 in Taji, Iraq — gaining invaluable experience in high-risk, high-stress environments.

In 2007, Chief Major returned to the Douglas County Fire Department, where he currently serves as the Battalion Chief overseeing Battalion 2, C-Shift, as well as the Chief of Technical Rescue. In this dual role, he manages the development, training, and operational readiness of the department’s Technical Rescue Team.

Chief Major holds numerous advanced certifications, including:

  • Vehicle Extrication Technician

  • Rope Rescue Technician

  • Confined Space Rescue Technician

  • Trench Collapse Rescue Technician

  • Structural Collapse Technician

  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician

  • Hazardous Materials Technician

  • Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)

In addition to his operational duties, Chief Major is heavily involved in assisting the department’s Fire Training Division, assisting with fire training, live fire evolutions, and all technical rescue disciplines. He is also a proud member of the Bearers of the Oath Instructor Cadre, teaching Hands-On Training (HOT) classes to firefighters across the country.

Chief Major continues to dedicate himself to professional growth and the advancement of special operations within the fire service. His future goals include promoting to Division Chief of Special Operations, where he would oversee both the Technical Rescue and Hazardous Materials Teams for Douglas County Fire Department.
